FASTERNA

The scenic landscape around Skedviken is rich in history. Here lay the southernmost of the Walloon forges, and the hammering sounds were heard for over a hundred years from 1774 to 1894. Rånäs forge and the magnificent castle bear witness to the area’s heyday.

Rånäs Castle

Rånäs Castle is situated in the heart of historical Sweden on the northern shore of Skedviken. Rånäs Forge had a charter from 1774 to produce 1500 skeppund (about 250 tons) of bar iron annually. Beneath the century-old linden trees in the castle’s avenues, the powerful hammer blows of the smithy resounded.

Lake Skedviken

Lake Skedviken is known for being an interesting area for bird watching. In the autumn you can see flocks of birds on the lake and the meadows around the lake are popular resting areas. The best place for bird watching is at the ruined castle of Mörby.

Runestone at Stortjäran

In the parish of Fasterna, there is a runestone, a stone with a remarkable history. In 1952, the stone, which is just over two and a half meters tall, was erected and is located about 90 meters north of the Rimbo – Uppsala highway and 100 meters east of the access road to Stortjäran.

Fasterna Church

Fasterna Church is a grand cruciform church, with the ruins of Mörby Castle as its southern neighbor and the waters of Skedviken to the east. The church site itself is ancient. The old medieval church was still standing when the parishes of Fasta and Esterna were merged into one parish in 1797.

Granby Local Heritage Museum

Welcome to the Granby Local Heritage Museum in Rånäs and the Fasterna Local Heritage Association. The association was founded in 1983 and has been a community gathering point for over 30 years. Every summer, we organize a textile exhibition and a themed exhibition.

Rånäs chapel

Rånäs chapel, also called Fasterna little church, is a church building that belongs to Fasterna parish in Uppsala diocese. The chapel is located immediately north of Fasta old cemetery in Rånäs

Mörby Castle Ruins

According to legend, the Viking chieftain Myre had his stronghold near the present-day ruins. Most of what we see of the castle today was built during the 1560s.

Kornamossen

Kornamossen is a large, relatively untouched mire that is considered one of the most valuable in the county. The groundwater has a high calcium content, which has led to the development of a rich fen with orchids such as marsh helleborine, fen orchid, and fragrant orchid.
