Most of what we can see of the castle today was built in the 1560s. After that, remodeling and additions took place. In the wake of bad business, the castle was mortgaged in the 1670s by the then owner Gustaf Gabrielsson Oxenstierna and the castle began to fall into disrepair.<br \/>\nIn 1728, the architect H\u00e5rleman examined M\u00f6rby and suggested that the castle should be left to decay and become a beautiful ruin, as it was not worth repairing.
